A special invitation from The Wiggles
The Wiggles are one of Australia’s most beloved entertainment acts, having rewritten the book on children’s entertainment with their unique song and dance routines. And now Sam (Yellow), Murray (Red), Jeff (Purple) and Anthony (Blue) are hitting the road in their big red car to find a fifth Wiggle for a special series of North American shows.
Are you a Mum or a Dad with a mean boogie and a penchant for wearing bright pink? Or an Aunt or Uncle with a quirky twist and an orange turtleneck that has been in the back of the closet for way too long? Then record your own version of iconic Wiggles song “Fruit Salad” for a chance to perform live on stage with The Wiggles in their upcoming North American Tour.
The Fine Print
The competition is open to people over 18; winning entrants will be selected in each city to receive a family pass to attend the concert, and perform live on stage!
Feel like some fruit salad today? Go ahead, show us what you’ve got.

Meet May’s On The Rise nominees
A new month brings a new batch of up-and-coming talent for our On The Rise program. Our On The Rise nominees for May are in, and we invite you to check them out and vote for your favorite.
Here’s how it works: we identify channels who have grown their subscriber base in the past 30 days but haven’t quite reached 100,000. You vote on your favorite on the top right-hand corner of this blog. At the end of the week, the nominee with the most votes wins exposure on the YouTube homepage and the videos page as well as posts on Facebook and Twitter. It’s all about giving a kick start to the next generation of Partners who will go on to do big things on YouTube. Past winners like emilynoel83, joshsundquist, and theslowmoguys have seen their subscriber numbers jump, all thanks to your support.
This month, our nominees span a range of areas, from musicians to educators to vloggers. Take a look at their channels and featured videos below, and cast your vote by May 18, 2011 at 6:00pm PST. We’ll announce the winner via this blog and the YouTube homepage on May 27.
YourTeacherMathHelp
If you want to solve polynomial equations, or remember how to find the circumference of a circle, check out YourTeacherMathHelp. With hundreds of videos, you can find lessons to match what you are currently studying to make the grade or ace that standardized test.
DisneyKid1
“Young & Free” is Joseph Birdsong’s outlook on life, but it’s also the title of his first full-length album. In addition to producing music, rapping under the moniker DK1, and collaborating on the channel 5awesomegays, Joe has created comedy and art videos on his own YouTube channel since 2007.
PaulDateh
Violin. Vocals. Writing. The three words Paul uses to describe who he is and what he does. What this translates to is inspiring music that blends violin with a hip hop beat, or classical music with the soul of jazz. Paul’s goal is to be a musician in every possible way, and given his latest tracks, and growing channel on YouTube, he is almost there.
CuteGirlsHairstyles
For more than two years, CuteGirlsHairstyles has saved many viewers from tired, boring hairdos. The channel hosts videos containing modern, original hairstyles for girls and young women, most of which take under five minutes to complete.
If you’re inspired by what you see here, check out other up-and-coming Partners by visiting our On the Rise channel, which features nominees, trending partners and winners. Look for more featured rising partners on the Browse page.

The Slow Mo Guys are April’s “On The Rise” winners
Congratulations to The Slow Mo Guys, who took an early lead and went on to win this month’s edition of On The Rise, the program where you decide which up-and-coming YouTube partner gets a spot on the homepage. The Slow Mo Guys will be featured on the YouTube homepage today, thanks to your support and votes.
A quick history on The Slow Mo Guys: Gavin Free and Dan Gruchy have been experimenting with high-speed cameras since 2004. Whether documenting birds of prey swooping, droplets colliding, or the effects of taking a ball to the face, these friends take on the world at a slower pace.
Here’s more from The Slow Mo Guys themselves:
If you’re enjoying our monthly blog series and want to see more rising YouTube stars, head over to our “On The Rise” channel and check out our playlists on the browse page. Check back next month, as your channel may be the next one featured!

"I have loved watching stuff in slow motion ever since I was a kid. I used to watch fight scenes from movies frame by frame on VHS so I could see all the action. When I got the opportunity to work with high speed cameras I saw this as my opportunity to film as many things as possible in super slow motion. I have been doing it for about 6 years now as a profession, but only recently got a computer powerful enough to deal with such massive files for my own show! Looking at things in slow motion makes you realise what you actually miss out on when you see things at "human speed". Sometimes you see something completely unexpected, sometimes can see how stuff works and sometimes stuff in slow motion just makes you laugh! It has been a great honour to participate in YouTube's On The Rise contest. I would like to thank everyone who voted for us and to welcome all our new subscribers!" Gavin Free

Your great sports video. Shown on SportsCenter. Here’s how.
One of the most beautiful things about sports on YouTube is that, on any given day, the best play wins. It can come from a professional athlete in a 35,000 seat arena, or from an inspirational 11-year old swimmer from Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Just in time for March Madness basketball in the US, we’re happy to tip-off the second version of the YouTube + SportsCenter Your Highlight program presented by AT&T – a chance to have your best play shown on air on SportsCenter:
Go to ESPN’s YouTube channel, check out the rules, and submit your great sports video before May 5, 2011. SportsCenter’s Emmy-winning producers will select the best videos, which will then be voted on by the YouTube community. The winner will be flown to ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn., for the taping of a special segment on SportsCenter.
Even if you’re not submitting a video, come back to the channel to see a gallery of the best submissions throughout the season. Good luck!

What makes an ad worth spreading?
Today we bring you a guest post from Chris Anderson, Curator of TED, a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Anderson explains how TED and YouTube are teaming up to present a challenge called 'Ads Worth Spreading'.
Our mission -- of spreading ideas around the world -- is supported in part by advertising. And we believe that advertising should evoke the same emotions a TEDTalk does -- it should make you think, make you respond, make you want to share -- a great idea, a product that makes the world better, an initiative that might change the world. Like YouTube, we want to see the same level of passion in online ads as we do in our TEDTalks. So, we’ve created a challenge called 'Ads Worth Spreading' to solicit the best ads that raise the bar, elevate the craft and invent new forms of online engagement.
We invite you to enter the competition. Entries can be hysterically funny, stunningly beautiful, or just intriguing, fascinating, ingenious and persuasive. For inspiration, check out examples of great creative on YouTube Show and Tell. It is free to enter, the submission deadline is February 7, 2011, and full contest rules are right here.
We’re excited to see your ads worth spreading!

Play of the year
Over the last 13 weeks, we've seen over 2000 submissions pour in from people around the country, all looking to have their play make it onto ESPN's SportsCenter. We've thoroughly enjoyed the incredible catches, buzzer beaters, game-winning goals, and most of all, the indomitable displays of competitive spirit. That's what sports on YouTube is all about!
Along those lines, we're thrilled to announce the winner of the YouTube | ESPN Your Highlight Presented by AT&T, as determined by community voting, is this video of Jay Fleming of Nashville, TN, shot by his father:
Jay's inspirational video beat some tough competition - these are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishers, respectively:
We'd like to thank everyone who viewed and voted upon videos. And to everyone who submitted a video, we say: well played.
Andrew Bangs, Sports Manager, recently watched "SLAP Magazine "One in a Million" 2010 Episode 7".

YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011: The shortlist is in, let the voting begin
Musicians from Finland to New Zealand and from Austria to Vietnam have done their bit - submitting their audition videos for the chance to be part of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011 at Sydney Opera House. Now, with 336 finalists from 46 countries selected, it’s your turn to play your part: voting is open for who you think should make up the orchestra.
Your votes at youtube.com/symphony over the next seven days will help decide which of these talented musicians will be packing up their trombones, violas, and timpani and heading to Sydney Opera House from March 14-20, 2011, to perform together for a global audience.
You can vote once per video, per day, until 23:59 EST on December 17 to help YouTube Symphony Orchestra Artistic Advisor Michael Tilson Thomas boil the 300 shortlisted hopefuls down to the final 96. Your votes are also needed to help choose four solo improvisers. “Mothership” composer Mason Bates will be using your input to choose from 36 soloists, including show-stopping performances on instruments like the guzheng, the musical saw and… the udderbot.
Congratulations to those in the running, and to all of those who submitted an audition -- thank you for your hard work. We've been blown away by your talent and determination.
